A short film that’s sure to ignite a bit of nostalgia in epic fantasy RPers of all stripes. *wistful sigh*
Wow, I posted a little simile that came into my head at work, went to bed, and 10 hours later it has 28 notes. I know that’s not many in the grand scheme of things, and it was only one sentence, but it still makes me really happy that more than 2-3 people like something original of mine.
Her eyes were the color of black coffee, and just as likely to keep me up at night.
Line from a pulp detective novel I will never write.
When I was in my first year of college, I was in the dining hall and spotted a young sparrow under the soft serve machine. Me being me, I immediately went outside, found a stick, then came back inside, laid down on my belly in front of the machine, and used the stick to coax the bird to a place where I could grab it with my hand. Once I had it, I carried it back to the kitchen of my dorm. Thinking it might be dehydrated, I offered it a bit of water in a spoon. It drank pretty enthusiastically, then closed its eyes and fluffed up. I sat with it for 15 minutes or so, wondering if there was anything else I could do for it. I was about to take it up to my room so I could look online for a local wildlife rescue center when it suddenly opened its eyes, spread its wings, and flew straight out the open window. I was extremely relieved.
I told my mom about it later, and she said “As far as I’m concerned, that one act gets you into heaven automatically.”
I never thought of it that way. It just seemed like the right thing to do.
